Fizzy Rocket
Build a rocket that launches with a chemical reaction! Cut and tape a paper rocket around a film canister, add water and a piece of fizzing tablet, and snap on the lid. The reaction produces gas, pressure builds inside, and the lid pops off to send the rocket into the air. Add the colored pigment, set the rocket on the cardstock, and each blast leaves a one-of-a-kind print. Launch it, measure it, and change the design to see how far it can go.

Fizzy Rocket
The Big Idea
Rockets launch by pushing gas out the back to create thrust.

Real-world connection
How Do Rockets Launch?
Real rockets use powerful engines and a special fuel called propellant to create thrust. As gas rushes out the back, the rocket moves in the opposite direction, following Newton's third law of motion. NASA uses this same force to launch astronauts and cargo into space. Inside the Fizzy Rocket, a chemical reaction fills the canister with gas, pressure builds until the lid pops, and the escaping gas sends the rocket soaring.
For classrooms
The Fizzy Rocket is a great fit for classrooms, after-school programs, and camps. Each kit builds one rocket and arrives individually packaged with all materials and instructions included.
