Real-world connection

Why a box tied to the month?

Many holiday gifts are forgotten by February. A seasonal STEM kit arrives every month, giving kids something new to look forward to. With every box, curiosity grows into confidence in science, technology, engineering and math.

The month is the hook, and the science is real. Write secret love notes in disappearing ink for Valentine's Day. Grow a hydroponic garden in April. Build a wobbling turkey bot in November. From a light-up gingerbread house in December to a leprechaun trap in March, each kit brings everyone to the table to learn, build and celebrate together.

Tying the build to a holiday does something a generic kit cannot. A child who has just built a leprechaun trap has a reason to explain how it works, argue for a better design and test the thing their cousin swore would not hold. Comprehension, critical thinking and creative thinking all get worked, at home, with family and friends in the room.

Every activity is created by the same curriculum writers and artists behind the hands-on STEM kits used in schools across the country. No science background is needed to run one. Little ones can work alongside a grown-up, and older children can complete activities on their own.

Giving it as a gift

A subscription is a gift that keeps arriving. Perfect for birthdays, holidays, or just because, and it turns up eleven more times after the day it is opened.

It also closes distance. Send a subscription to each home and the same box arrives at both doors every month, so grandparents and grandkids can hop on a video call and build the same activity together.

Buying this for somebody else? Get in touch before you order and we will set it up so the box turns up with their name on it, not yours.

How a month works

  1. The box arrives

One kit a month, shipped free to the contiguous United States, built around the month you are actually in.

  2. Open it and go

Three or more activities, each packed on its own with everything pre-measured and labeled. Nothing to buy and nothing to prep.

  3. Build it together

A full-color printed guide, a digital guide and instructional videos. No science background needed by the adult in the room.

  4. Then the countdown

The month ends and the next box is already on its way. Twelve months, twelve themes, one shelf filling up.

Buying one month for a group

A single month also works on its own, as the build for a classroom holiday party, a scout meeting, a library program, a camp day or a youth group night. Pick the month that fits your calendar and everybody builds the same thing on the same afternoon.

Group orders are not sold from this page, because the answer depends on which month you want, how many children you are building with and when you need it on site. Thirty boxes landing in a classroom on one morning are packed differently from one box landing at a kitchen table.

So it starts with a conversation rather than a cart.

Questions

What ages is this for?
The activities are written to stretch, so one box works across a range rather than one grade. Tell us your children's ages and we will tell you straight whether this is the right year to start.
Do the activities repeat?
No two months build the same thing. The table above lists every build in the year, so you can see the whole twelve months before you start one.
What if we miss a month?
Nothing expires. The kit is yours, and the activities do not go stale because the holiday passed.
Do we need anything else?
Water. Everything else is in the box, including the safety equipment.
Can I give this as a gift?
Yes, and it is one of the better ones. Tell us before you order and we will set it up so the box turns up with their name on it, not yours.
Can I buy a single month on its own?
Not from this page. A subscription is the only way to start one here, and a single month in quantity for a classroom or a group is a different pack-out that begins with a conversation.
Can I cancel?
Any time, and yearly plans are refunded for any unused months. Manage or cancel it yourself from your account, no phone call needed.
Is this the same as your fundraiser?
No. Kits for a Cause is how a school, club or team raises money with seasonal kits. This is a subscription for your own family.
