Funding & Grants

Have a great idea for impact that needs funding?
You need to know where the money is.

There is far more money available for hands-on learning than most educators realize — federal streams your district already receives, state and regional funds nobody bothers to aggregate, and local foundations writing checks small enough that hardly anyone competes for them. You do not need a program already running, or even a fully formed idea. Bring us what you wish you could do, and we will help you work out what pays for it.

This page names the federal streams that cover work like ours, assists with the paperwork an application asks for, and opens our working file of 136 national grant programs and 566 state and local grants for you to search.

Every figure below is sourced · last reviewed 18 September 2026

Read this before you use the grant list

The list further down this page is a repository, not a guarantee. It is a starting point gathered from public grant directories, and not every grant on it has an active deadline right now. Some entries carry deadlines from earlier years exactly as the directory published them, so you can see how old they are rather than trusting a date we quietly refreshed.

Every card is labeled Verified for accuracy or Not verified yet. Verified means a person here opened the funder’s own page and read it. Everything else we collected but have not yet checked. We check links periodically, but some will go dark before we catch them.

If you find a grant here that no longer exists, please tell us and we will update or remove it — and if you know of one we are missing, send it over. One form does both.

Want to skip the search? Talk to a Specialist about what you are trying to fund. Tell us the idea and the setting, and we will tell you which streams and grants realistically fit — including when the honest answer is that none of them do.

Six federal streams, and what each one actually covers

While we are here to support your funding needs, this information is not a guarantee of funding. We strongly encourage you to confirm anything here with your district’s federal programs director before you build a purchase order on it. But these six come up the most, and every detail below is drawn from the program’s own documentation rather than from a vendor’s summary of it.

Title IV, Part A

Student Support and Academic Enrichment

The most direct fit, and the one most often left on the table.

Title IV-A money splits across three buckets: a well-rounded education, safe and healthy schools, and the effective use of technology. The Department of Education’s own program profile lists “Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)” as a sample activity under well-rounded education.

  • A district receiving more than $30,000 must spend at least 20% on well-rounded education and at least 20% on safe and healthy schools.
  • No more than 15% of the technology portion may go to infrastructure.
  • A district receiving $30,000 or less is not bound by those percentages.

That 20% is a floor a district is required to spend, in the category our kits sit in. If nobody has claimed it, that is the first conversation to have.

U.S. Department of Education — Title IV-A program profile

Perkins V

Career and Technical Education

The one people assume is only for high school.

Perkins V allows local funds to be used starting as early as grade 5, with each state deciding which grade levels it will support. According to ACTE’s funding brief, roughly 90% of states now let local recipients spend on middle-grades CTE and career exploration, and nearly half allow it down to grade 5.

  • Career exploration and career awareness are named local uses, not an edge case.
  • Your state’s CTE office sets the grade floor — ask them where it is.

Career exploration in the elementary and middle grades is what our catalog is built around. Perkins is the stream written for it.

ACTE — Perkins 101: Federal Funding

Title II, Part A

Supporting Effective Instruction

The professional-development question, answered honestly.

Rhye asked whether our PD qualifies here. The statute is unusually direct about vendors: a district may carry out Title II-A activities “through a grant or contract with a for-profit or nonprofit entity”, and one of the named local uses is professional development for instruction in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics subjects, including computer science.

  • So yes — a for-profit provider is explicitly contemplated, not tolerated.
  • But the definition of professional development is the gate. ESSA requires PD to be sustained — the statute says in parentheses “not stand-alone, 1-day, or short term workshops” — and also intensive, collaborative, job-embedded, data-driven and classroom-focused.
  • Activities must also be evidence-based. The statute defines three levels — strong, moderate and promising — plus a fourth route for a program that demonstrates a rationale based on high-quality research and is being evaluated.

What that means for us, plainly: a one-day training on a new kit is not fundable under Title II-A. A multi-session program across a semester, built into the teacher’s own classroom with coaching and student-work review, is the shape the statute is describing. If you want Title II-A to pay for our PD, talk to us before you write the application so we scope it that way from the start.

Title III, Part A

English Language Acquisition

Usually the wrong door, and it is worth knowing why.

Title III comes up a lot because schools have the money. It is narrower than it looks. The statute requires a subgrantee to use the funds “to increase the English language proficiency of English learners” through language instruction programs that demonstrate success at exactly that.

  • It also carries a hard supplement-not-supplant rule: Title III funds must add to what would otherwise have been spent on English learners, and may never replace it.
  • A STEM kit is not a language instruction educational program, so Title III will not buy one on its own reasoning.
  • Where it can work is narrow and real: materials used inside a language instruction program, where the STEM context is the vehicle for language development and the application says so and measures it.

If someone tells you Title III will cover a classroom set as general enrichment, that is the claim that gets a district a finding. Try Title IV-A first.

20 U.S.C. 6825 — subgrants to eligible entities

Title I, Part A

Improving Basic Programs

Where a schoolwide program changes the math.

A school where children from low-income families make up at least 40% of enrollment may run a schoolwide program rather than a targeted one. A schoolwide program serves every child in the building instead of only identified students, which means funds can go toward upgrading the whole instructional program.

  • Targeted assistance: services go to identified students only.
  • Schoolwide: the 40% threshold unlocks the whole building.

Under a schoolwide program, a classroom set stops being a pull-out resource and becomes a legitimate purchase for the entire room.

U.S. Department of Education — Title I, Part A

Closed — do not plan on it

ESSER

If a funding guide still tells you to use ESSER, it was written before the deadline.

ARP ESSER obligations had to be made by 28 January 2025. After that, remaining funds could only be liquidated against obligations already incurred, and that late-liquidation window closed on 30 March 2026. There is no ESSER money left for new purchases.

  • Obligation deadline: 28 January 2025.
  • Late liquidation closed: 30 March 2026.

We name it because a lot of vendor funding pages still list ESSER as an option, and following one of those wastes a grant-writing afternoon.

K-12 Dive — late liquidation coverage

Your state’s Title IV-A office

Title IV-A is a federal formula grant, but it reaches you through your state education agency, and the rules that bind you day to day are the state’s. Start federal, then go to your own state.

Federal program page (ED) →

We opened and confirmed 45 of 51 of these pages on 18 September 2026. The states not listed as links are shown with the agency that runs the program, because we could not confirm a stable public page for them — contact the agency directly rather than trusting a guessed URL.

Your state’s CTE / Perkins V office

This is often not your department of education. Several states put Perkins under a board of regents, a community college system or a separate CareerTech agency — Louisiana runs it through LCTCS, Kansas through the Board of Regents, Montana through the university system, Oklahoma through a standalone CareerTech agency. Going to the wrong agency is the most common way this conversation stalls.

Federal Perkins page (ED) →

We opened and confirmed 46 of 51 of these pages on 18 September 2026, and recorded which agency actually administers Perkins in each state.

Those are the six federal streams. The other half of school funding is state and local, and we cannot generalize about it honestly — state STEM and CTE set-asides, district general funds, PTO and booster budgets, and local business sponsorship all behave differently in every state. If you tell us which state you are in, we will tell you what we have seen work there and say so plainly when we have not seen anything.

How to look

Funding best practices, and the three cases people ask us about most

Most funding advice assumes a public school district. A lot of the people who buy from us are not one — they are a museum, a private school, a co-op, a library, a summer program. Those routes exist, but they are different routes.

Searching Well

The list on this page is a starting point, not the universe. The grants that actually get funded are usually the local ones nobody aggregated.

  • Start with money already in the building. A Title IV-A set-aside your district must spend beats a national competition you might win.
  • Grants.gov is the federal system of record. Filter by eligibility first — most federal programs fund agencies and nonprofits, not individual classrooms.
  • Your own state education agency publishes competitive STEM and CTE grants that never reach a national directory. The two pickers above are the front door.
  • Your local education foundation. Most of the 566 entries in our by-state list are exactly this — a county or district foundation writing $500 to $5,000 checks with far less competition than a national program.
  • Corporate giving where you live. A regional employer’s community fund cares about your zip code in a way a national foundation does not.

A practical filter: if the award is under about $5,000 and the application is under about five pages, the odds are usually better than the headline programs.

Private and Parochial Schools

There is real money here, and more of it than most heads of school expect. It just does not arrive the way people assume. The largest channel is not a grant you apply for at all — it is a statutory entitlement your students and teachers already have, and it runs through the public district next door.

  • The public school district initiates it. Under ESSA the local education agency must consult with private schools in its boundaries, and that consultation has to happen before the district decides anything that affects the opportunity — not after the budget is set.
  • Equitable services run across Title I and, separately, Titles I-C, II-A, III-A, IV-A and IV-B.
  • You receive services and materials, not a check. Title to equipment and materials stays with the public agency. That is not a district being difficult; it is how the statute is written.
  • So the practical ask is different: you are asking the district’s federal programs office to purchase and provide, not to reimburse you.

Where the outside grants actually are. Local business and corporate giving is a genuine supplement — but it is a supplement. Corporate giving is about 7% of all charitable giving in the United States against roughly 64% from individuals, so a plan that starts and ends with the companies in town is starting at the small end. Two things make it more productive:

  • Read the eligibility text for religion clauses, every time. They differ in ways that matter. American Honda funds private and public K-12 schools but excludes religious-affiliated organizations outright. Toshiba America Foundation funds K-12 STEM broadly and bars religious projects — a project test, not a school test, so a parochial school can apply for a secular STEM project. Voya Unsung Heroes is explicit that any accredited public or private K-12 school may apply.
  • Your state may have a choice program. Education savings accounts, vouchers and tax-credit scholarships now exist in most states in some form, and several cover materials rather than tuition alone. What your state offers, and whether its constitution constrains it, is genuinely a state-by-state question.

If your district has never contacted you about consultation, that itself is worth raising with them — it is a requirement, not a courtesy, and every state has an ombudsman whose job is exactly this.

Homeschools and Co-ops

This is the one where we most often see bad information, so here is the careful version.

  • Federal ESSA equitable services generally do not reach homeschools. The Department’s guidance on private school participation treats homeschooled children as outside that program. We will not tell you it is a clean, settled exclusion — older federal FAQ material has pointed to state law, and states differ — but you should not build a plan on ESSA money.
  • State education savings accounts and vouchers are the real route in a growing number of states, and several of them explicitly cover curriculum and materials. Programs, amounts and eligibility change constantly, and at least one has been under court challenge, so check your own state’s current program rather than a list — including ours.
  • Private and community foundations frequently fund co-ops and enrichment groups that hold, or are fiscally sponsored by, a 501(c)(3). Nonprofit status opens more doors here than homeschool status does.
  • Several grants in the list below are tagged as open to homeschools. Read that tag carefully — where it came from a directory’s eligibility checkbox rather than the funder’s own wording, the card says so.

We would rather tell you this is genuinely unsettled than hand you a confident answer that costs you an application cycle.

Museums, Libraries and Out-of-School Programs

Informal learning sites have their own federal streams, and they are better funded than most people realize.

  • IMLS Museums for America awards $5,000 to $350,000 over one to three years, with a next deadline of 13 November 2026. Note the catch: it requires a non-federal cost share equal to or greater than the amount you request.
  • 21st Century Community Learning Centers funds academic enrichment outside school hours. It is a federal formula grant to states, and states then run competitions — so community organizations, museums and afterschool providers apply to their own state agency, not to Washington.
  • NSF’s STEM Education directorate funds informal and K-12 learning at research scale. Confirm the current solicitation before you write: NSF carries its own notice that it is reorganizing and that its program pages may no longer be current.

Camp TO GO and NASA ASTRO CAMP® were built for exactly this setting, and we can write the program description a 21st CCLC application needs.

136 grant programs, filterable

This is an ever-evolving list, and grants on it may not have been verified for current accuracy. Please use it as a starting point in your funding search rather than as a final answer — deadlines move, programs close, and funders rewrite their own rules without telling anybody. 3 cards are verified so far; the rest are published unverified on purpose, because a lead you can check in five minutes beats a gap you never knew existed. Nothing here is an eligibility determination. Read the funder’s own page before you apply.

Nothing matches those filters. Try clearing one of them — or tell us what you are looking for and we will look for you.

Know a grant we are missing? Send it over.

This list grows because people add to it. If you know of a funding opportunity other educators would benefit from — national, state or the small local one nobody has aggregated — send us the link and a sentence about who it is for, and we will add it. And if something here has closed, moved or gone dead, tell us that too. Both of those help every person who reads this page after you.

By state

566 state and local programs, across 49 states

These are mostly local and regional education foundations — county funds, district foundations, state teacher associations. They are smaller than the national programs and far less competitive, which often makes them the better use of an afternoon. Each state also lists the two official offices we confirmed for it.

An honest note on this list: these entries came to us as a name and a link only, with no description, award or deadline attached, and the directory filed them under a STEM heading even though many are general-purpose education funders. We have not tagged them by focus, because inventing a focus for them would be worse than leaving it blank.

Add a funder from your own region

Regional money is the most useful money on this page and the hardest to find, because nobody indexes it. A county education foundation, a utility’s community fund, a local chamber program, a state association award — if you know of one, send the link and a brief description and we will add it to your state. These are the funders that give directly to the communities they sit in, and the ones most likely to say yes to a school down the road from them.

Tell us what you need — or tell us a link is dead

The fastest route to a funded purchase is usually not reading this whole page. Tell us what you are trying to run and what money you are allowed to touch, and we will tell you which stream or grant fits, and say so plainly if none of them do. The same form reports a broken or expired listing, which genuinely helps — we would rather hear it from you than leave it up.

We use this to answer you. We do not sell or share it, and we will not add you to a mailing list from this form.

A separate organization, worth knowing about

The Central Creativity Foundation

The Central Creativity Foundation is a separate entity from Central Creativity LLC, with its own board and its own programs. If what you need is grant-funded programming rather than a purchase, that is where to look.

We keep the line between them bright on purpose: buying from us is not a donation to the Foundation, and a Foundation grant is not a discount from us.

The grant list below them is a different kind of thing — collected from publicly accessible sources, labeled card by card with whether we have verified it, and not sourced to this standard. Where a program’s rules are set at state level we say so rather than generalize.
