The Hands-On Literacy kit components arranged together: the K-2 and 3-6 guides, an open activity spread, a case of Reading Horizons magnetic letters, the lined writing board, a pad of rainbow scratch notes, paint brushes, mixing cups, a propeller, LEDs and bagged dry materials.

Add to the kit

Every Hands-On Literacy kit, Student and Instructor alike, ships with one magnetic dry-erase board and one set of magnetic letters. Both are also sold on their own, so a teacher who wants extra sets for small-group phonics work can order as many as the group needs. Each comes in class packs of 5, 10, and 25.

Lined Magnetic Dry-Erase Board

This 8.5" x 11" double-sided magnetic whiteboard has primary writing lines on one side and intermediate lines on the other. It is ideal for phonics instruction, handwriting practice, and word-building with magnetic letters, and the durable surface wipes clean between words.

Real-world connection

The science of reading meets the power of STEM

Every module opens with one direct, explicit Reading Horizons phonics lesson. Reading Horizons brings more than 40 years of literacy expertise and an Orton-Gillingham-based approach, so students see, hear, say, and touch as they learn.

Hands-on STEM activities follow, where students apply their new skills while building, experimenting, and problem-solving. Each activity ends with a literacy connection through vocabulary, writing, and reflection.

The phonics instruction in Hands-On Literacy is built in collaboration with
