Classroom To GO Units
Light Physical Science
This unit introduces students to how light helps us see and how it travels through different materials. Students explore how transparent, translucent, and opaque objects affect light and how shadows form when light is blocked. They also examine how light creates color, how colors can mix, and how some materials react to different types of light.
NGSS: 1-PS4-2 1-PS4-3
Light and Sound Physical Science
In Light & Sound, students learn how light and sound are produced and how they travel. Students explore how sound is created by vibrations and how light can reflect, illuminate objects, and help people communicate. They also examine how electricity moves through circuits to power lights and devices.
NGSS: 1-PS4-1 1-PS4-4 1-ESS1-1
Plant Traits Life Science
Plant Traits introduces students to the structures of plants and how those structures help plants grow and survive. Students explore how plants begin as seeds, how water moves through roots and stems, and how plant parts like leaves, flowers, and roots support growth. They also examine how certain traits, such as waxy skin on cacti, help plants live in different environments.
NGSS: 1-LS1-1 1-LS1-2 1-LS3-1
Animal Traits Life Science
Animal Traits focuses on how physical traits help animals survive in their habitats. Students explore how body coverings such as fur, feathers, and scales protect animals and how features like ears, beaks, and body structures help animals find food and sense their surroundings. They also examine how adaptations help animals survive in different environments.
NGSS: 1-LS1-1
Patterns in the Sky Earth and Space Science
This unit explores repeating patterns we can observe in the sky. Students learn how the movement of Earth, the sun, and the moon creates patterns such as shadows during the day, solar eclipses, phases of the moon, and constellations in the night sky. They also examine how these patterns help people observe and understand changes in the sky over time.
NGSS: 1-ESS1-1
Day and Night Earth and Space Science
Day & Night explores how the movement of Earth and the sun creates the patterns of day and night. Students learn how Earth's rotation causes different parts of the planet to experience daylight or darkness and how the sun provides light and heat that support life on Earth. They also examine how Earth's tilt and orbit influence seasons and changing daylight hours.
