Classroom To GO Units
Properties and Changes Physical Science
Properties & Changes explores the properties of matter and how materials can change when they are heated, cooled, or mixed. Students learn about solids, liquids, and gases, and investigate properties such as viscosity and surface tension. They also examine how heat energy can cause changes in materials, including changes of state and reversible or irreversible changes.
NGSS: 2-PS1-1 2-PS1-4
Material Properties Physical Science
Material Properties examines how different materials have properties that affect how they behave and how they are used. Students investigate properties such as absorbency, friction, and density while exploring why some objects sink or float. They also apply these ideas to engineering by designing and testing structures that can float on water.
NGSS: 2-PS1-2 K-2-ETS1-1 K-2-ETS1-3
Plants and Survival Life Science
Plants & Survival focuses on how plants grow, reproduce, and survive. Students learn how pollinators help plants reproduce, how seeds germinate and grow into new plants, and how plants get water, nutrients, and sunlight to make food. They also learn how seeds disperse so new plants can grow in different places.
NGSS: 2-LS2-1 2-LS2-2
Habitats Earth and Space Science
Habitats introduces students to the environments where plants and animals live. Students learn what organisms need to survive, including food, water, shelter, and the right environmental conditions. They also investigate how soil, trees, and other habitat features support living things.
NGSS: 2-LS4-1 2-LS2-1
Our Changing Universe Earth and Space Science
Our Changing Universe explores features of planets and the ways scientists study space. Students learn about volcanoes, craters on the moon, and how soil forms and differs on Earth and Mars. They also discover how robots called rovers help scientists explore other planets and collect information about their surfaces.
NGSS: 2-ESS2-2 2-ESS1-1 2-PS1-1 K-2-ETS1-2
Processes that Shape the Earth Earth and Space Science
Processes that Shape the Earth examines the natural processes that change Earth's surface over time. Students learn how weathering and erosion caused by wind and water break down rocks and move sediment from one place to another. They also investigate how water, soil, and chemical reactions can shape landforms and gradually change the landscape.
